Announced today, Delta Dental of Wisconsin awarded a $33,828 grant to HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay. Last year, both hospitals provided more charitable oral surgery time than any other hospitals in the region, serving more than 1,500 individuals with critically-needed surgical dental care.

Both hospitals play a pivotal role in providing much needed sedation dentistry services to children and individuals with special health care needs in Brown County. More than 65 percent of their oral surgery patients are considered low-income, utilizing either Medicaid or financial assistance through the hospitals’ charity care program.

“Unfortunately, there is still a high need for oral surgery due to severe decay or other issues facing these vulnerable populations,” said Ann Boson, director of community relations and charitable fund for Delta Dental of Wisconsin. “We are thrilled that HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center have committed to provide access to this care; it’s a partnership we are proud to be involved with.”

HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center will be upgrading their NOMAD portable X-ray system and adding two additional, fully-equipped dental trays, while HSHS St. Vincent Hospital will receive a dental cart to replace the 20-year-old equipment they are currently using.

The operating room time that both hospitals provide will help reduce waiting lists for oral surgical care. Increasing their programs’ efficiency by reducing turnover time between surgical procedures will allow more patients to be cared for. Having reliable equipment also helps provide the consistency needed to continue serving at-risk and underserved individuals in Northeastern Wisconsin.
