Wisconsin Historical Society: Southwest Wisconsin historic sites to re-open for 2017 season

Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin – The Southwest historic sites, including Villa Louis, Stonefield, Pendarvis, and First Capitol, all part of the Wisconsin Historical Society, will re-open for the 2017 season this May. A new season brings a full-range of events and activities at these sites.

“We are honored to be opening for the 2017 season and provide the public with the opportunity to explore Wisconsin history as well as the opening of a new exhibit,” said Susan Caya-Slusser, southwest sites regional director at the Wisconsin Historical Society. “This year, Villa Louis will open its 2017 season with a new exhibit called “And the Bride Wore: 50 Years of Wisconsin Wedding Fashion” that will be displaying fifty years of Wisconsin fashion, 1857-1907, as seen through wedding dresses.”

Throughout the season, the Southwest sites will offer a variety of special events and programming.

Villa Louis: Walk through the doors of the Villa Louis Mansion and step into the life of one of Wisconsin’s most historic families of the 19th century, the Dousman family. Stonefield: Experience the stories that cultivated Wisconsin’s scenic countryside. Open daily, 10am – 5pm, May 27 – Oct. 20. Visit stonefield.org for additional information regarding operating hours and special events.

Pendarvis: Tucked away in historic Mineral Point, Pendarvis celebrates Wisconsin’s historic preservation movement. Open daily, 10am – 5pm, May 27 – Oct. 29. Visit Pendarvis.org for additional information regarding operating hours and special events.

First Capitol: Discover the rugged origins of the first capitol of Wisconsin Territory. Open Friday– Sunday, 10am – 4pm, May 27 – Sept. 3. Visit firstcapitol.org for additional information regarding operation hours and special events.
