Madison, Wis. (February 2017) – “We are excited to be recognized as a 2016 Green Masters honoree,” said Jeff Hanson, director of environmental services for Alliant Energy. “Our company has been applying sustainable business practices for many years but opportunities like the Green Masters Program allow us to further benchmark our progress as well as learn best practices from other companies.”

Alliant Energy is transforming to supply cleaner and sustainable energy for their customers. The company has significantly decreased emissions over the past several years. Since 2005, the company has reduced sulfur dioxide by 68%, nitrogen oxides by 68%, mercury by 78% and carbon dioxide (CO2) by 22%. And, currently the company has plans to add up to 1,000 megawatt of wind generation by 2020 as well as several solar projects.

“The work that Alliant Energy is doing with regards to carbon reductions, as well as adding renewable energy capacity, is both impressive and motivating” said Tom Eggert, executive director, Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. Kevin Banas, the program coordinator for the Green Masters Program, stated that, “Being a large utility, responsible for producing energy for thousands of customers, Alliant Energy has put in the effort required to make a tremendous impact.
