From auto dealerships to funeral homes, machine shops to coffee shops, family businesses dominate the economy. They are the true job creators and deserve recognition.

The Wisconsin Family Business of the Year Award is underway and accepting nominations from businesses throughout the state. The award, now in its fourteenth year, celebrates the accomplishments and the impact family-owned businesses have on our communities.

Nominations for the 2016 program reflected the broad array of industries that family businesses cover in the State of Wisconsin: dairy farms, construction, manufacturing, brewing, baking, and cheese-making. It is wonderful to hear these families’ stories of challenges, triumphs, and dreams. Since the beginning of the program over 300 companies have been nominated from all corners of the state.

One family business will be selected for Grand Awards in each category of small (under 25 employees), medium(25-99 employees), and large (100 or more employees) businesses. Special awards will also be given to businesses excelling in a particular area. Self-nominations are encouraged or nominations can be made on behalf of the business by consultants, vendors, clients, or friends.  An independent panel of judges will select the award recipients. The deadline for nominations is March 31, 2017. Awards will be presented at a banquet to be held at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison on May 4, 2017

The awards program is sponsored by CPA firm Smith & Gesteland, LLP, First Business Bank, and the Husch Blackwell law firm.
