The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is again ranked among the top ten public universities in the Midwest according to the U.S. News and World Report.

The magazine’s 2017 rankings place UW-Stevens Point tied for ninth in the top tier of Midwestern comprehensive public universities. The university was recognized for having high student retention rates, improved four-year graduation rate and a solid reputation among peer institutions.

“We are pleased UW-Stevens Point is recognized as one of the best universities in the Midwest,” said Chancellor Bernie Patterson. “We are especially pleased that our graduation rate improved by 4 percentage points in one year.”

These rankings are a good tool for students who are beginning to look at colleges and universities but may not be that familiar with the UW-Stevens Point campus, Patterson said. “If students are looking at the top-ranking universities in the Midwest, they should be looking at UW-Stevens Point.”

U.S. News and World Report assessed 56 public universities in the 12-state Midwest area. UW-Stevens Point provides a high quality academic experience with a low student-faculty ratio of 21:1. It is also a great value, Patterson noted, as Wisconsin residents pay $4,080 in tuition and fees per semester.

“Each day we strive to give our students the best possible education at an affordable cost,” he said. “We continually look for ways to increase student success. We are launching a new academic advising model this fall and offering additional sections of high-demand courses to help even more students complete their degrees in four years.”
