Wil-Kil Pest Control Welcomes Third Bed Bug Canine, Bull, to its Team
Bull joins current bed bug beagles Max and Daisy to hunt out bed bugs!

Menomonee Falls, Wis., February 29, 2016 – Wil-Kil Pest Control, the Upper Midwest’s quality leader in pest management, is excited to announce the addition of Bull to its bed bug canine team. Bull joins forces with Max and Daisy to become one of the most effective bed bug canine teams in the state.

“As Wisconsin’s first pest management company to offer bed bug canines for hire, the demand for bed bug treatment services continues to increase in all our markets – almost doubling at Wil-Kil between 2011 and 2015. With three bed bug canines on our team, we will be able to more effectively assist our clients to meet this growing demand. We are excited to welcome Bull to our beagle family,” said Jared Woerth, special services manager at Wil-Kil.

Bed bugs are a year-round, global problem, due in part to an increase in travel and difficulty in treating. Bed bug canines often save customer’s time and money as the dogs will detect the bed bugs within minutes, with an extremely high level of accuracy. Once the bed bugs are detected, a treatment plan is prescribed, which could include heat or conventional treatment and additional monitoring.

According to a 2015 survey conducted by the National Pest Management Association, bed bug infestations continue to grow at high rates, with 99.6 percent of pest management respondents having treated for bed bugs in the past year. The top three places where pest professionals report finding bed bugs are apartments/condominiums, homes and hotels and motels. Bed bugs are not only found in hotels – that many establishments and public areas with heavy traffic have been effected, specifically in nursing homes (58%), office buildings (45%), schools and daycare centers (43%), hospitals (36%), doctor’s offices/outpatient facilities (33%), transportation (29%), retail stores (20%) and movie theatres (16%). “Bed bugs are excellent hitchhikers and thrive in heavily populated places. These resourceful bugs can easily hitch a ride in suitcases, on clothing and in other human belongings. For this reason, we encourage our customers to hire canines certified by the National Entomology Scent Detection Canine Association (NESDCA) as a proactive step to identify a problem before it gets out of hand.”

For those taking winter vacations or traveling during spring break, Wil-Kil suggests taking the following precautions when traveling to prevent obtaining bed bugs:

Bed bug prevention methods at hotels include:

·Thoroughly inspect the entire room before unpacking by checking behind the headboard, next to the baseboard and behind the night stand
·Use a flashlight when looking for bed bugs for the best visibility
·Check the mattress and box spring seams for signs of bed bugs
·Set luggage away from walls and the bed
·Do not pile clothes or shoes next to or on the bed
·Notify the property management if you see anything suspicious
·Inspect your suitcase after your travel

Steps to take upon returning home include:
·Inspect suitcases thoroughly before bringing them into the house and consider storing suitcases in a garage, not inside the home
·Vacuum suitcases thoroughly before bringing them indoors
·Consider using a hand steamer to steam your luggage, helping to kill any bed bugs
·Wash all clothes, even those items that were not worn, in hot water and dry on high heat to remove any bed bugs or eggs that may have traveled home
·Place shoes, backpacks and dry clean only clothes in dryer on high heat for at least 30 minutes after your trip

Wil-Kil Pest Control obtained Bull from J&K Canine Academy based in High Springs, Florida. Bull, like Max and Daisy, is a NESDCA certified scent detection canine.
