Milwaukee company wins small grand award

Milwaukee – General Plastics, Inc. is one of seven Wisconsin companies awarded a prestigious Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year Award. The winners were announced Thursday night at a
black tie banquet honoring the 40 nominees.

When General Plastics’ current owner, Bob Porsche, purchased the company in 1987 it only had eight full-time employees and an 11,000 square foot facility. Currently, they employ over 70 dedicated full-time workers and have completed two expansions over the past 27 years to become a 51,000 square foot building.

General Plastics consistently reinvests five to seven percent annually in state of the art cutting edge machinery, support equipment and their employees. In the past three years they have grown their business by almost 21 percent and improved delivery performance to over 98 percent on time and complete.

Quality is their organization’s top priority. General Plastics’ machines are some of the newest, most efficient and largest in the industry. They possess 3D scanning equipment and analysis software capable of measuring within a ten-thousandth of an inch. They also provide value added assembly and custom packaging which allows their products to ship directly to customers’ assembly lines.

General Plastics has also been an environmental steward for many years. Since 2010 they have reduced their landfill waste by 50 percent. They also reclaim and re-extrude 99 percent of their scrap raw material back into utility products.

Celebrating its 27th year, the Manufacturer of the Year Award program recognizes manufacturers of all sizes and industries for their contributions to the great state of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year award winners were selected by an independent panel of judges representing manufacturing, service and the public sector.

The accounting and advisory firm of Baker Tilly, the law firm of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, and the business association Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce sponsor the MOTY awards program.
