Joerres: Manpower CEO sees more rapid economic shifts ahead

Manpower Inc. CEO Jeff Joerres says rapid shifts in the economy, including in Wisconsin, will be the norm for the foreseeable future.

It also has helped create the economic uncertainty that has been blamed for the recent rise in the state unemployment rate, Joerres said on the “UpFront with Mike Gousha” show, a statewide public affairs program.

“We have to be more prepared for … forces in our economy that move us back as we try to take steps forward. That’s the new norm,” Joerres said. “We need to get level footing.”

Joerres said that economy moves much faster today than it has in the past, which forces companies to react differently.

“You don’t get jobs unless companies need them, where before you had anticipatory hiring,” said Joerres.

Joerres says he believes things are going to get better, but not right away.

“For us to get to this proverbial other side, clearly it’s going to take a while,” he said.
