Second Chance Partners for Education: Debuts new adult education series for educators

Manufacturing focus assists academic staff in guiding student career choices

PEWAUKEE – January 27, 2011 – Second Chance Partners for Education (SCP) announced today the launch of a new series of adult education classes known as Careers and Pathways in Manufacturing.

The four-part course was created specifically for school counselors, career advisors, educators and school district personnel who provide guidance to students seeking information about career choices after graduation. The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will provide a continuing education credit for all educators and school district personnel who complete the course. Seven area businesses and industry experts from sponsoring manufacturers will provide interactive presentations to all participants.

“Because manufacturing companies are many of our area’s largest employers, it makes perfect sense that we coach educators how to best prepare students with the information they need to make informed decisions in preparing for life after high school,” said Marty Gholson, SCP academic director and instructor of the program. “The world of manufacturing is continuing to evolve with advances in technology and our future workforce must too.”

Courses will be held at sponsoring organizations including Dickten Masch Plastics, Waukesha County Technical College, Ellison Technologies, MetalTek, Sentry Equipment Corp, Quad Graphics, and Waukesha Electric Systems.

“Our business partners and members of the Waukesha Manufacturing Alliance have been instrumental in the development of this initial series,” adds Stephanie Borowski, SCP’s executive director. “Our goal is to continue to bring educational opportunities like this to school districts, business partners and communities.”
