2011 Wis. Governor’s Business Plan Contest: Enter now

Have an idea for a high-tech, high-growth business that employs technology? BPC judges, mentors and other resources will help you gain the basic skills necessary to create a business plan. You’ll also have many networking opportunities with mentors and potential angel investors, government resources and other advisors.

ABOUT THE CONTEST

The Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest is accepting entries online for the 2010 competition. To enter, submit your 250-Word IDEA Abstract now through 5 p.m. Jan. 31, 2011. The contest’s Grand Prize is worth $50,000 in cash and services.

Participants have the chance to win seed capital and valuable services that will help them launch or grow their businesses. Wisconsin residents 18 years old and older are eligible, as are teams from Wisconsin-based businesses and organizations. Entries from outside Wisconsin from people or companies planning to relocate in the state may be accepted. The contest is free to enter at http://www.govsbizplancontest.com.

More than 1,800 entrepreneurs from 100-plus communities took part in the 2004-2009 Governor’s Business Plan Contests. They shared in $1 million in cash and in-kind prizes – as well as valuable exposure, investment opportunities and mentoring.

LIVEyearbook, a Neenah-based company, has developed a software-as-a-service platform that can be used by schools and students to produce online yearbooks. The company’s patent-pending technology offers schools appropriate editorial controls and a better revenue model, and allows students to create custom yearbooks online or in a traditional print format.

Become a judge: Judging the competition is a great opportunity to help shape entrepreneurial high-growth companies throughout Wisconsin. BPC judges include, investors, academics, experienced entrepreneurs, and other professionals.

Become a mentor: Mentoring a team during the BPC is an opportunity to interact with innovative leaders through the challenging process of building a new business. Mentors volunteer time to the participating entrepreneur, assisting them with aspect of business definition, refinement and implementation of planning.
