UW-Madison: Baldwin addresses UW IT Academy students

U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at this year’s Information Technology Academy (ITA) Holiday Luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 11 from noon-2 p.m. at the Alliant Energy Center.

The holiday luncheon is an opportunity for the entire ITA community composed of students, parents, staff and volunteers to exhibit projects that each cohort has been creating in labs since the start of the new academic year. The luncheon is also the initial meeting of students and their new mentors. About 100 students and their family members are expected to attend.

ITA is a four-year pre-college program that provides hands-on training and access to technology for talented students of color and economically disadvantaged students attending Madison public schools. During their four-year ITA experience, the students meet bi-weekly during the academic year to learn Web design, animation, graphic design and other technology skills. Students meet regularly with mentors who assist and encourage them to do well in school.
