MADISON—Governor Jim Doyle today announced that Appleton Papers Inc. in Portage, Columbia County, has received $300,000 from the Community Development Block Grant-Economic Development Program administered by the Department of Commerce (Commerce). The grant will enable Columbia County to assist the company in purchasing additional equipment at its plant in Portage.

“Wisconsin has the highest-skilled workers and the highest-quality manufacturers in the world,” Governor Doyle said. “My top priority this year has been to continue to invest in our companies and create good-paying jobs for Wisconsin families. I’m proud we are investing in Appleton Papers Inc. and assisting the company in purchasing equipment for its encapsulation business in Portage.”

Appleton Papers Inc. is a paper manufacturer. The company’s Portage plant specializes in encapsulation of chemicals to encapsulate perfumes, cosmetics, vegetable oils, pesticides, and dyes. Appleton Papers Inc. will invest $15 million in new equipment for the encapsulation process and will create 10 jobs over a three-year period.
