Madison Area Technical College chemistry and engineering instructor Dr. Ken Walz is among a select group of experts invited to participate in a National Summit on Energy Technician Education.

The summit, which is being held December 8-10 in Washington, D.C., will provide recommendations to the National Science Foundation on the future directions of energy technician education (wind, solar, photovoltaic, alternative and renewable energy).

“The summit is bringing together energy education experts from across the country to analyze trends in renewable energy and forecast employment prospects in emerging green careers,” says Walz. “I’ve been invited to share my expertise as we come up with recommendations for changes, enhancements and innovations in energy education, programs, funding and initiatives. It’s very exciting.”

Significant changes within the energy industry have affected many areas of the economy. That’s why community colleges—in close association with business and industry, universities, professional associations, and government—are being called on to educate energy technicians.
