American Speed Association: First ever ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour champion to be crowned

ELKO SPEEDWAY “THUNDER CAR NATIONAL 40L” THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

October 1, 2010 – The American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and http://www.grandstay.net is heading into its final races of the 2010 season. This Saturday, the ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour will crown its first ever ASAMST Champion.

Chris Marek and Jay Kalbus have been on the top of the point standings for much of the 2010 season, and this Saturday night will put an end to the battle. The two are also at the top of the Hedman Husler Hard Charger Award points. Marek is ahead with 62 points and Kalbus with 44 points. Scott Null follows the two with 24 Hedman Husler points, having advanced the most positions at the season opener at Madison International Speedway and Dells Raceway Park.

Jason Thoma finds himself third in the point standings with one win, while Aaron Cain has one top-five and five top-tens. In fifth position, Stephanie Losiniecki also has one top-five with three top-tens. Outside of Marek, Kalbus, and Thoma, Bobby Wilberg has two wins, both at Madison International Speedway.

The last time the ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour visited Elko Speedway, Chris Marek took home the top spot while Brent Kane, Jack Paulson, Conrad Jorgenson and Scott King rounded out the top five, out of a record number of Sportsman entries.

The inaugural season has definitely been an exciting one with competitive racing and stellar finishes. Sportsman drivers will have one more opportunity to make a charge to the front in this final event of the season. Who will be crowned the first ASAMST champion? The question will be answered after the checkered flag falls for the “Thunder Car Nationals 40” this Saturday night, October 2nd. Practice starts at 4:00PM with qualifying at 6:00PM and racing to follow.

The final event for the American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and grandstay.net super late models and ASA OREGON Midwest Truck Tour drivers is next weekend, October 9-10 at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway for the historic Oktoberfest weekend.
