UW-Milwaukee: Helen Bader Foundation supports UWM Research Foundation internships

MILWAUKEE – The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee Research Foundation (UWMRF) has received a $20,000 grant from the Helen Bader Foundation to support its technology transfer internship program.

The technology transfer internship program employs UWM student interns to support a continuum of intellectual property management activities that include identification and assessment of intellectual property, management of patent prosecution and marketing and licensing of technology.

“The continued support from the Helen Bader Foundation helps expand our opportunities for students to gain real-world experience in the application of research to industry,” said Brian Thompson, president of the UWMRF, “and we are grateful for their support.”

“Research and technology have proven to be real drivers for job and business creation, and our region needs to foster more of that innovation,” said Daniel Bader, president of the Helen Bader Foundation. “We are pleased that our support will bolster the UWM Research Foundation’s work, and help identify real-world applications for the advancements being made by local researchers.”

The Helen Bader Foundation supports innovative projects and programs that advance the well-being of people and promote successful relationships with their families and communities. The Foundation is named for the late Helen Bader, a Milwaukee businesswoman who became a social worker. Based in Milwaukee, the Foundation awards an average of $11 million per year in grants, totaling more than $181 million in grants since it was established in 1992.

The UWM Research Foundation was launched in 2006 to complement the UWM Foundation and support Research and Innovation at UW-Milwaukee. The UWM Research Foundation is an independent non-profit corporation that exists thanks to the support of business and community partners in Milwaukee and throughout Wisconsin.
