MILWAUKEE, May 20, 2010 – Governor Doyle on Wednesday signed SB 273, the Renewable Resource Credits bill, which classifies plasma gasification technology as renewable under the state’s renewable portfolio standards. Wisconsin is the first state in the nation to explicitly classify plasma gasification as renewable.

Christopher Maloney, CEO of Alliance Federated Energy (AFE), issued this statement Thursday following the news:

“This legislation is a crucial step forward for the environmental and economic health of our state and enhances Wisconsin’s technology leadership in renewable power.”

“By incorporating plasma gasification technology into Wisconsin’s renewable portfolio standards, the Governor and the legislature have paved the way for innovative new energy projects in the state – like Alliance Federated Energy’s Project Apollo in Milwaukee – that will increase local, clean energy production and create new jobs.”

“Project Apollo will create more than 250 jobs during the construction process and employ 45 full-time people once the $235 million facility is operational in 2013. Processing industrial, commercial and municipal waste and converting it into syngas and then electricity will help power roughly 20,000 homes in the Milwaukee area every day with a new source of clean energy.”

“We’d like to thank Governor Doyle and leaders in the State Assembly and Senate for their foresight in passing and signing this legislation into law.”
