Remodeled facilities and two renovated residential centers at Treehaven, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point education and conference facility located between Rhinelander and Tomahawk, will be dedicated on Thursday, April 29.

The grand opening activities will begin with a private dedication at 10:30 a.m., followed by a light lunch at noon. The public is invited to an open house of the remodeled facilities from 1-3 p.m.

According to Director Corky McReynolds, a tour of the centers will include visiting the newly remodeled Sylvester Auditorium, Bear Track Lounge and the Winterberry Dining Hall. Joining McReynolds will be Christine Thomas, dean of the College of Natural Resources, and Bob Tomlinson, vice chancellor for student affairs.

The renovation took three years to complete at a cost slightly more than $1 million. Those dollars were bonded by UWSP’s Division of Student Affairs as well as a special College of Natural Resources student fee specifically designated toward this renovation project. Key support for this renovation came from many campus sectors including CNR students, CNR Dean Christine Thomas, and UWSP Administration.

As with many pending and future UWSP building projects, sustainability measures were front and center for the design and construction phases of the residential centers.

According to McReynolds, energy efficient windows will reduce heat loss by 40 percent and R10 rigid insulation added to all exterior walls will effectively double the existing level of insulation. Other improvements include a 90-percent efficient clean-burning gas furnace, two high efficiency air conditioners, low-flush toilets, metered lavatory faucets and low-flow shower heads and high-efficiency fluorescent fixtures . A re-circulating hot water system was added so water is no longer wasted while users run cold water out of existing pipes. New carpet, vinyl and acoustical tile have recycled content and existing materials were re-used where possible.
