Funding will aid construction of new engineering center, retain jobs

MARINETTE – Governor Doyle on Tuesday announced that Tyco Fire Suppression & Building Products would receive $837,000 in state tax credits to help construct a new engineering center in Marinette and retain hundreds of good-paying jobs in the area.

The $10 million facility, called the Center of Excellence, will house Tyco’s engineering operations, as well as research and development and product testing.

“The New North is home to some of the most advanced manufacturing in the world, and this grant will help ensure Tyco is able to compete and continue to provide world-class products for the industry,” said Jerry Murphy, Executive Director of the New North, Inc.

The tax credits were provided through the state Department of Commerce.

Tyco Fire Suppression & Building Products provides fire protection products, such as fire extinguishers and fire detection systems, sold under the ANSUL and PYRO-CHEM brand names. In 1990, Tyco acquired Ansul Fire Protection, now Tyco Fire Suppression & Building Products, which has had an active presence in the Marinette community since 1912.
