MADISON – The Department of Justice has settled a lawsuit against Richard L. Stricker of Stoughton, d/b/a Rural Water Service, LLC, for violations of state laws regulating pump installing.

According to the complaint, filed at the request of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Stricker is a licensed pump installer who failed to properly weld a well casing pipe and failed to upgrade a non-complying well, at a residence in Rock County. Stricker, who cooperated with the Department of Justice and subsequently settled with the homeowner, has agreed to pay penalties, fees, and costs totaling $8,500 for the violations. Stricker has also agreed to notify DNR before doing any pump work during the next six months.

“We will continue to work with the DNR to make sure that Wisconsin’s environmental laws maintaining safe drinking water are followed,” said Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen.

Assistant Attorney General Mary Batt prosecuted the case. The settlement was approved by Rock County Circuit Court Judge Daniel T. Dillon on April 15, 2010.
