MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance (WBIA) on Wednesday unveiled their plans to garner support for legislation that will extend a series of programs aimed at providing incentives to Wisconsin’s billion-dollar bio fuel industry.

The WBIA has been working with representatives from the Renewable Fuels Association in Washington, DC to enact bipartisan legislation that would extend the following:

* A 45-cent-per-gallon Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit (VEETC)

* A 54-cent-per-gallon ethanol tariff

* A cellulosic ethanol tax credit

* A small producers tax credit

“Without extension, the tax credits for ethanol will expire at the end of this year,” said Joshua Morby, Executive Director of the WBIA. “The loss of these incentives would raise prices at the pump for consumers and cripple our industry. That’s why the federal bio fuel tax credits remain priority number one for the WBIA.

“We’re encouraged to have the support of Governor Doyle, and look to expand that support to the members of the Governors’ Ethanol Coalition and our state’s congressional delegation.”

The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is a diverse group of businesses, environmental groups, and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
