Homeowners Concept Realtors: Celebrates 25 years of service and value to customers

Wauwatosa, Wis. – Many people clip coupons to save on groceries. Yet how many think about saving money on realtor commissions when they sell a home?

Homeowners Concept Realtors, 611 N. Mayfair Road, has spent 2009 celebrating 25 years of providing low-cost, high-value service to home sellers and buyers. Homeowners Concept is the area’s largest and oldest full-service discount real estate company, offering a bare 1.5 percent commission rate for sellers willing to show their own properties.

“The traditional real estate selling process is costly, inefficient and decidedly not customer-friendly,” said Peter Skanavis, who opened Homeowners Concept in 1984. “I’m proud to mark a quarter-century of our company providing customers both high-level service and significant savings.”

Homeowners Concept provides all marketing and sales support for home sellers, including document preparation and closing. In 2009, the company implemented a new 4.4 percent commission rate for sellers who prefer a Homeowners Concept agent to conduct their home showings – still a large savings over typical commission levels.

Skanavis likens the typical real estate model to multilevel marketing. Far too many agents chase too few sales, creating an ongoing frenzy that requires agents to spend ever more money marketing themselves. This, in turn, necessitates 5, 6 and even 7 percent commissions charged to home sellers.

“The usual home sale process is structured to benefit the agent, not the customer,” Skanavis said. “Homeowners Concept is focused solely on helping the customer sell their home and save thousands of dollars on what they would pay a typical agent in commission.”

The real estate business is very transitory, Skanavis noted. Agents enter the market with little experience and often leave shortly afterward, victims of an overcrowded field pursuing too few sales opportunities.

By contrast, Homeowners Concept Realtors sell many more homes per year than the average agent and are marked by long tenure with the company and a wealth of experience and knowledge.
