Milwaukee, Wisconsin (December 2, 2009). Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. is pleased to announce that Peter M. Sommerhauser has been named the 2010 Milwaukee M&A Corporate Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession. Sommerhauser is the only attorney in Wisconsin to receive the award in the Mergers & Acquisitions category. A single lawyer, from a variety of specialties, in each community is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year” and the designation is the result of exhaustive peer review surveys. Rated in Best Lawyers since 1993, Sommerhauser, a shareholder of the firm’s highly regarded Corporate/M&A Practice Group, received particularly high ratings in the surveys for his abilities, professionalism and integrity.
Sommerhauser’s achievement will be included in the current, 16th edition of The Best Lawyers in America. The 2010 edition is based on more than 2.8 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers. Sommerhauser joined Godfrey & Kahn in 1969 and served on its management committee for 25 years. His experience in corporate law covers a broad range of areas, including mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, business succession and business financial structuring. Sommerhauser indicated the building of a strong team of Merger & Acquisition professionals at Godfrey & Kahn was critical to the success of many transactions in which he was involved. This newest designation for Sommerhauser is the latest in a long list of honors, including Best Lawyers in America; Who’s Who in American Law; Chambers & Partners’ Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers; Milwaukee Magazine’s “Top 75 Lawyers” and Wisconsin Super Lawyers. Sommerhauser earned his juris doctor from Northwestern University School of Law and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from the University of Nebraska.
