Partnership seeks to engage students and connect curriculum to future employment

Beloit, WI – (November 4, 2009) The Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) and Beloit Memorial High School (BMHS) are holding the second annual career fair on Wednesday, November 18 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the school’s Barkin Arena. Freshmen through seniors from BMHS, South Beloit and Beloit Turner will participate.

Among the corporations and organizations exhibiting are Regal Beloit, Genencor, M&I Bank, ABC Supply, Blackhawk Technical College, Rock County Job Center, WGEZ, City of Beloit Police Department, 13WREX, Beloit Memorial Hospital, Beloit Snappers, Fairbanks Morse Engine, City of South Beloit Fire Department and City of Beloit Fire Department.

The GBCC is hoping to help students prepare for the transition from education to career in this era of changing workplace demands. Exposing students to the types of opportunities that await them after high school is intended to engage the students in the process of planning for their futures.

According to John Kaminski , BMHS Dean of Freshman Students, “The Career Fair is an opportunity for students to get a snapshot of what their future may look like.” Businesses and organizations interested in participating in the career fair may call the Chamber,
