The Shullsburg Creamery

208 West Water Street

Shullsburg, WI 53586

Why: Shullsburg Creamery has been owned by family farmers for more than 70 years! Help celebrate the history of cheesemaking at the 12th Annual Shullsburg Cheesefest with Sarah “The Cheese Lady.”

While Sarah carves, she will be sharing some interesting history on the naming of the “Badger State.” Much of Wisconsin, including Shullsburg, was mined during the 1800s. The miners and their families often created homes in the mouths of the mines to protect them from intruders. The miners were known for always sticking their heads up out of the shafts “like badgers.” Hence, the “Badger State” was named!

Interviews: Sarah is available for interviews on Saturday, October 3 from 9 AM to 5 PM. The media is welcome to stop by anytime. For more information or photos, contact Angela Hemauer, Food Insight Public Relations, ahemauer@foodinsight.net or 515-669-3664.
