MADISON – Beginning today (April 13), Transportation Services at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will spend the week spreading information on alternatives to driving alone.

For UW-Madison, recently named a Silver Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists, this weeklong event is part of a continuous effort to make it possible for everyone to use an alternative to driving alone to campus.

UW Commuter Solutions Week is an opportunity for anyone who travels to the UW-Madison campus or UW Hospital (employees, faculty, students and visitors) to obtain comprehensive information about commuting options in a face-to-face setting. A mix of alternative transportation experts, including Madison Metro, RideShare Etc., Community Car and UW Commuter Solutions will be on hand throughout the week.

In addition, the ever-popular free tune-ups will be available again this year. The new twist is that in addition to bike tune-ups (provided by Budget Bicycles, Erik’s Bike Shop, and Revolution Cycles), this year UW Commuter Solutions Week will feature “pedestrian tune-ups” provided by Movin’ Shoes and Fleet Feet Sports of Madison. Pedestrian tune-ups will involve assistance in selecting the right kind of walking gear for comfort and safety, optimizing your route and more.

Each day, the UW Commuter Solutions team will set up a mini-fair at a new location on campus, the goal being to convenience as many people on campus as possible. Event attendees will also enjoy coffee (donated by Just Coffee Cooperative and Bradbury’s Coffee) and snacks, and can expect to pedal or walk away with many giveaways.
