Capitol Lakes: Madison firm wins Silver Design Award

The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin awarded Capitol Lakes for the renovation of one of its senior residential buildings, The Heights.

(Madison, Wisconsin) March 18, 2009 – Capitol Lakes™, an accredited, not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community in downtown Madison, announced today that it has received a Silver Award in the “Restoration/Renovation” category of the “Projects of Distinction 2008,” an awards program presented by the Wisconsin Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC). Capitol Lakes (formerly Meriter Retirement) received the award for the renovation of the top three floors of The Heights, one of its residential buildings. The award is shared with McGann Construction and the architectural firm of Simonson, Germany, Nonemaker + Associates, Inc. (SGN+A).

The Projects of Distinction awards recognize the most distinct construction projects in Wisconsin, specifically in the areas of overall distinctiveness, execution of design, craftsmanship, coordination, budgeting, safety, difficulty, and unusual challenges.

An awards ceremony was held in February 2009 at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Presenting the award was Denise Scardina of The Daily Reporter, one of the sponsors of the event. Accepting the award on behalf of McGann Construction, Capitol Lakes, and SGN+A was Aaron Kostichka from McGann Construction. The architect/designer for the project was James J. Moran, Jr., of SGN+A.

The 14-story Heights building, which has 143 Independent Living residences, is one of many residential buildings on the Capitol Lakes campus. The MainGate building houses more Independent Living apartments, Extended Living and Special Memory Care apartments are in The Terraces building, and there is a Health Care Center for skilled nursing care and rehabilitation. In addition, Capitol Lakes is home to a long list of fine amenities. Among them is the Aquatic and Wellness Center, which is open to the public.
