Announcement Made at Ethisphere and Forbes Joint Conference in New York City
MILWAUKEE, June 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Ethisphere magazine has named Wisconsin Energy one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for 2008.
Ninety-three global companies, across 33 business sectors, were selected for inclusion on the 2008 list. The selection was based on the following criteria:
— corporate citizenship and responsibility,
— corporate governance,
— innovation that contributes to public well-being,
— industry leadership,
— executive leadership and tone at the top,
— internal systems and ethics/compliance programs,
— legal, regulatory and reputation track record.
The announcement was made at the Ethisphere and Forbes joint conference, “Driving Profit through Ethical Leadership,” June 3 in New York City.
“We’re pleased to be named to the 2008 list of most ethical companies,” said Gale Klappa, chairman, president and chief executive officer. “This award underscores our commitment to conduct business with the highest level of integrity.”
Ethisphere used a rigorous, multi-step evaluation to select the finalists from among thousands of companies.
According to Ethisphere, “All of the 2008 World’s Most Ethical Companies are standouts in their industries. These companies up the ante for what it takes to be an ethical leader and force their competitors to follow suit or fall behind. The world’s most ethical companies are the ones that go above and beyond legal minimums, bring about innovative new ideas to expand the public well-being and work on reducing their carbon footprint,” the magazine reported.
Other Wisconsin-based companies on the 2008 list include Johnson Controls, Manpower, Rockwell Automation and S.C. Johnson.
In February, Wisconsin Energy also was named one of the 15 best corporate citizens in the United States by Corporate Responsibility Officer magazine.
